In the first quarter of 2025, Uzbekistan's public debt increased by $2.2 billion, reaching $42.4 billion. Of this, $35.55 billion was external debt, and $6.87 billion was domestic debt. The Ministry of Economy and Finance reported this in its regular report.
The bulk of the loans were allocated by the World Bank ($7.74 billion), the Asian Development Bank ($7.44 billion), China ($3.6 billion) and Japan ($3.1 billion) financial institutions.
Loan funds are mainly spent on budget support ($16.8 billion), energy, agriculture and infrastructure.
Interest payments are also increasing: 21.1 trillion soums are planned to be allocated for this purpose in 2025. It is also projected that public debt will reach $45.1 billion by the end of 2025.
