Uzbekistan’s external debt surpasses $72 billion

According to the Central Bank, Uzbekistan’s total external debt reached $72.2 billion in the first half of 2025. Of this amount, $36.8 billion accounts for government debt, while the remaining $35.4 billion is corporate debt.

Over the past year, external debt increased by $15.6 billion. Government debt is projected to exceed $45 billion by the end of the year, making up 36.7% of GDP. International financial institutions note that Uzbekistan’s external debt burden is still considered “moderate,” as much of it has been raised on concessional terms.
