Uzbekistan ranks first in the CIS for overweight prevalence
According to the World Health Organization and Our World in Data, around 64% of adults in Uzbekistan are overweight. This is one of the highest rates among CIS countries.
Globally, an average of 43–45% of adults are overweight. The highest rate is recorded in Tonga, where around 91% of adults are overweight. The lowest rate is in Japan, at 24%.
Experts attribute the growing prevalence of overweight to high consumption of calorie-dense foods, reduced physical activity, and sedentary lifestyles.
