Uzbekistan may revoke driving licenses for speeding more than 80 km/h over the limit

The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has approved, in its third reading, a new bill aimed at strengthening road safety and has forwarded it to the Senate for consideration.

Under the proposed legislation, drivers who exceed the speed limit by more than 80 km/h could face driver's license suspension and fines of up to UZS 26.8 million.

The bill also proposes tougher penalties for drunk driving, illegal street racing, and other serious traffic violations. In certain cases, authorities would be allowed to temporarily confiscate a vehicle for a period of six months to one year.

In addition, the draft law introduces criminal liability for allowing a minor to drive if doing so results in serious consequences.
