Uzbekistan–Japan Strategic Partnership Further Strengthened

As part of his official visit to Tokyo, on December 19 President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ryosei Akazawa.

During the meeting, the sides discussed key issues related to further strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Japan, expanding trade and investment cooperation, and advancing joint projects.

The Head of State expressed satisfaction with the dynamic growth of Japan’s direct investments in Uzbekistan’s economy. In recent years, the number of joint ventures has increased tenfold, while the total value of ongoing projects has exceeded 20 billion US dollars.

Special attention was given to enhancing trade and investment ties and deepening industrial cooperation in areas such as alternative energy, decarbonization, strategically important raw materials, and other sectors. The importance of establishing an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation at the ministerial level to promote joint programs and projects was emphasized.

An agreement was reached to develop a program of measures aimed at further strengthening business ties with the active participation of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Association for Trade with CIS Countries (ROTOBO).
