Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan expand strategic cooperation

On December 11, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, and held meetings with the country's national leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and President Serdar Berdimuhamedow.

The meetings discussed the 30th anniversary of the declaration of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and the international forum to be held on this occasion. The head of Uzbekistan congratulated the Turkmen people on this historic date.

The parties paid special attention to the issues of expanding cooperation in the political, trade and economic, transport, energy, agricultural, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

It was noted that since the beginning of the year, the volume of trade between the two countries has reached almost $ 1 billion, cargo transportation has increased by 30 percent, and the "Shovot-Tashkhovuz" trade zone is successfully operating.

It was decided that important agreements on further increasing trade volumes and accelerating joint projects in various sectors will be considered at future meetings of the intergovernmental commission, the Business Council, and the Forum of Regions.
