Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan begin territorial exchange process

Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have officially launched the territorial exchange process as part of agreements on the demarcation of their shared state border.

Under the agreement, the villages of Chongara and Toshtepa, previously part of Uzbekistan's Fergana Region, will come under the jurisdiction of Kyrgyzstan. In return, Kyrgyzstan will transfer land plots of equal size to Uzbekistan.

Starting August 3, a joint working group from both countries began implementing the agreement on the ground. Specialists are registering residents, determining their citizenship status, processing the necessary documentation, and providing explanations regarding relocation and property-related matters.

The villages of Chongara and Toshtepa are populated mainly by ethnic Kyrgyz, with a combined population of approximately 2,500 people. Once the registration process is completed, eligible local residents will begin receiving Kyrgyz citizenship in accordance with the country's legislation.
