Uzbek woman investigated in Russia over a mat featuring Russian symbols returns home

An Uzbek woman who could have faced criminal liability in Russia over a mat featuring the Russian flag and coat of arms has returned to Uzbekistan.

As a result of cooperation between the Migration Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and human rights organizations in Russia, it was ensured that no criminal case would be opened against the woman, and she was able to return home. The woman said she had not taken the mat with the intention of showing disrespect or with any ill intent and had not expected the incident to develop in this way. After returning home, she expressed her gratitude to those who helped her and to the President, and Migration Agency employees accompanied her to Samarkand.
