Uzbek woman accused of insulting the Russian flag to be repatriated

An Uzbek citizen living in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Region is under investigation after placing a doormat featuring the Russian flag and coat of arms at the entrance to her home.

According to the woman, she found the mat among discarded items on the street, cleaned it, and brought it home. She said she was unaware that using it in this way could result in legal consequences and insisted that she had no intention of insulting Russia's state symbols.

Uzbekistan's Migration Agency said the case is being handled in cooperation with the relevant Russian authorities. The agency has established contact with Sevara Musayeva and is providing her with consular and legal assistance.

In addition, the Migration Fund has covered the cost of her flight back to Uzbekistan. She is scheduled to return home on August 6.
