Uzbek Language to Be Taught at Oxford

The University of Oxford has launched the UK’s first-ever Uzbek Studies program. The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies will now offer courses in both modern Uzbek and classical Chagatai, as well as in the history and culture of Uzbekistan.

At the opening ceremony, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva noted that modern Uzbekistan is open to science, technology, progress, and international dialogue.

For her contribution to education and women’s empowerment, Mirziyoyeva was awarded an Oxford University honor.

The event was attended by Sir Tim Hitchens, Lord Malcolm Bruce, Professor Nikolai Sinai, and Oxford’s Lord Mayor Louise Upton. The ceremony concluded with the signing of a cooperation agreement between Oxford University and the “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation.
