On October 18, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Samarkand. He was welcomed by Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration, and other officials.
Noting that this is Rubio’s first visit to Central Asia, Saida Mirziyoyeva welcomed him to Uzbekistan.
Explaining the reason for his visit to Uzbekistan, Marco Rubio stated that while some countries are visited due to crises or specific challenges, others are visited with the aim of developing mutual relations. He emphasized that strengthening ties with the countries of Central Asia is important for the United States.
As part of the visit, discussions are planned in Samarkand with the foreign ministers of the five Central Asian states under the “C5+1” format, along with meetings with business representatives.
