US preparing to deport 80 Ukrainians

The Trump administration has begun the process of deporting about 80 Ukrainians who have overstayed their visas in the United States. The Washington Post reports that ICE has told some of the citizens that they could be taken to Ukraine or Poland on a special flight on November 17. Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishina, confirmed that the 80 people on the list are on the list. Lawyers say that the deported citizens are likely to be forcibly recruited into the Ukrainian army during the ongoing war. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said that each case is being considered in accordance with the legal procedure.

53 Ukrainians were deported in 2024. If the new list is approved, this will be the highest number in recent years.
