US immigration raids may see use of electric-shock gloves

US federal immigration agents could be equipped with special electric-shock gloves.
The Department of Homeland Security plans to purchase "CT-G5 G.L.O.V.E." gloves, allocating between $10 million and $20 million for the initiative through March 2027. The device delivers an electric pulse upon contact and is intended to help control individuals who are resisting. The department plans to use the gloves to de-escalate situations and create a distraction.
However, the initiative is sparking opposition from rights activists and some law enforcement personnel. They are concerned that the devices could be used with excessive force against migrants and protesters.
The manufacturer advises against using the gloves on children, pregnant women, the elderly, or individuals with severe disabilities.
