Up to 15 years in prison proposed for organizing illegal migration

Uzbekistan may introduce criminal liability for organizing illegal migration. A relevant draft law has been submitted for public discussion.

Under the draft, organizing illegal migration, leading such activities, or assisting by providing transportation or accommodation could be punishable by 3 to 5 years in prison.

If the crime is committed by a group of persons, repeatedly, by officials, or by an organized group, a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years is proposed.

If the actions are committed on an especially large scale, in a manner dangerous to human life or health, or result in serious consequences, a prison sentence of 10 to 15 years may be imposed.

The public discussion of the draft law will continue until September 8.
