UN says more than 26 million people in Central Asia are affected by drought

According to the United Nations (UN), more than 26 million people across Central Asia are suffering from the effects of drought. More than 152 million hectares of land in the region have been affected by drought, while at least 20% of the land has undergone degradation.

The UN noted that these conditions are reducing the productivity of agriculture and livestock farming, contributing to water shortages and declining household incomes.

At the same time, new projects aimed at land restoration and climate change adaptation were announced during the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly held in Samarkand.

The UN also gave special recognition to Uzbekistan’s "Yashil Makon" ("Green Space") program.
