The United Arab Emirates has banned children under 15 from using social media, becoming the first Arab country to introduce such a restriction. Reuters reported.
According to the new rules, children under 15 will not be able to open, use or manage accounts on social media. They will also be deprived of the ability to post, leave comments, share content and join groups. Users aged 15-16 will only be allowed to use it with strict security measures. This will include age-appropriate content control, parental controls, limiting communication with strangers and managing screen time.
All social media platforms will also be required to determine the age of users through artificial intelligence and digital verification systems.
