During the trial, the defendants pleaded guilty, and the sentence was carried out on Thursday in the city of Taif, located in the south-west of Saudi Arabia.

The authorities of Saudi Arabia have executed two military personnel on charges of treason, reports the Saudi news agency.

According to reports, Saudi Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Majyed bin Musa Awad al-Balawi and Senior Sergeant Yusuf bin Rida Hassan al-Azuni were arrested in 2017 and sentenced to death. The court concluded that both servicemen were guilty of treason, disobeying orders and "refusal to protect the interests of the nation".

During the trial, the defendants pleaded guilty. According to the royal decree, the sentence was carried out on Thursday in the city of Taif, located in the south-west of Saudi Arabia.

In April 2021, Saudi authorities executed three military personnel for treason and "collaboration with the enemy".
