Two Former Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs Found to Have Embezzled 186 Billion Soums

It was previously reported that former Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bekmurod Abdullayev and Rustam Tursunov, had been detained as a preventive measure on suspicion of large-scale embezzlement of state property.

At a meeting chaired by the President, it was revealed that a criminal case had been opened against them for misappropriating 186 billion soums of budget funds through state procurement schemes.

The President stressed that strict control will be established over the use of public funds and that responsibility for violations will be severe. He also emphasized the need for government agencies to recruit young and qualified personnel and to strengthen internal anti-corruption oversight systems.
