Turkmenistan will create a mechanism "Ombudsman's office + public associations"

The Government of Turkmenistan will launch the National Preventive Mechanism in the format “Ombudsman’s Office + public associations” to strengthen the national system for ensuring and protecting human rights and freedoms.
The initiative is designed to promote the fulfillment of Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights, as well as the expansion of humanitarian cooperation with international organizations.
In practice, the mechanism “Ombudsman's office + public associations” provides for strengthening the ombudsman's relations with civil society in order to expand its ability to consider complaints and suggestions from the population.
The new mechanism will be implemented within the framework of the project of the United Nations Development Program and the Office of the Ombudsman in Turkmenistan "Improving the institutional capacity of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan" with the support of Finland.
UNDP has previously partnered with the Government of Finland to promote human rights and improve social protection, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities and women.
