Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, July 25, 2023 – Turkmenistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline project, which will transport Turkmen gas to Europe. This was stated by the country's Foreign Ministry on the official website. The project has been in development for several years, but faces difficulties due to political and financial factors.

In a statement on Monday, the Turkmen government expressed confidence that the project could be implemented despite the problems.

There are no political, economic or financial factors hindering the construction of the pipeline

- said in a statement.

Turkmenistan is committed to the strategy of diversification of energy flows and expresses its readiness to continue cooperation with partners in the implementation of the Trans-Caspian pipeline project.

The Trans-Caspian pipeline is a major infrastructure project, and its construction, in accordance with paragraph 3 of Article 14 of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, will require cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the delimitation of the bottom of which is associated with the construction of this large-scale project. The project was also supported by the European Union, which sees it as a way to diversify energy supplies.

Earlier, the media reported that the capacity of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline will be 10-12 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The gas will be transported from Turkmenistan's offshore gas fields in the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, and then to Turkey and Europe.

The construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline will bring a tangible contribution to the economy of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan. It will also help Turkmenistan diversify and increase its exports of natural gas, which is one of the country's main sources of income.

The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline is a complex project, but it has the potential for successful implementation. The project will not only benefit Turkmenistan, but will also help improve Europe's energy security.
