Representatives of the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan took part in the international conference “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development 2023”, which was held on September 7-8 in Tokyo. The forum was organized by the Science Council of Japan and brought together experts from around the world.
The speech of the Turkmen delegates presented the country's innovative experience using the example of the construction of the “smart” city of Arkadag, in which high technologies and environmentally friendly approaches were introduced, which corresponds to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
As a result of the event, the Tokyo Statement 2023 was adopted. In particular, the countries participating in the international conference specifically noted the need to increase investments in the improvement and digital transformation of cities, according to information from the Turkmen Embassy in Japan on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is also said that the Science Council of Japan highly appreciated the efforts of Turkmenistan aimed at achieving the SDGs through an innovative transition with a multi-level management strategy.
The diplomatic mission recalled that, as part of the implementation of the Agreement on Technical Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and Japan, joint research is being carried out with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to improve the seismological monitoring system in Ashgabat and its environs.”
