Former Turkish presidential candidate and leader of Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, faces jail time over 28 lawsuits filed against him, Cumhuriyet newspaper reported. The politician's lawyer Celal Celik said that 28 lawsuits were filed against Kılıçdaroglu. In total, for all claims, he faces 110 years in prison, as well as a ban on political activity. The lawyer explained that Kılıçdaroğlu did not get into the new parliament as a deputy and was deprived of parliamentary immunity, so the previously suspended lawsuits will be reconsidered. In most cases, the plaintiff is President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. So, in 2021, Erdogan filed a lawsuit against Kilichdaroglu, who said about the president that he was lying. In 2017, Kılıçdaroğlu compared Erdogan to Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi and Ceausescu. Recall that Kılıçdaroglu lost to Erdogan in the second round of the presidential elections, gaining 47.82% of the vote.
