Trump restricts birthright citizenship in the United States

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed two new executive orders aimed at restricting birthright citizenship in the United States.

Under the first order, children born in the U.S. would not automatically receive American citizenship if one of their parents is linked to a terrorist organization, attempted to obtain U.S. citizenship through fraud, or officially represents the interests of a foreign government.

The second order targets so-called "birth tourism." It proposes restricting visas for foreign women who travel to the United States primarily to give birth so their children can automatically obtain U.S. citizenship.

Trump said the measures are part of his broader policy to combat illegal immigration.

The executive orders are expected to face legal challenges, as critics argue they may conflict with the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees citizenship to most people born on U.S. soil.
