Trump orders nuclear weapons test

Trump has ordered the Department of Defense to begin testing nuclear weapons. He announced this on his page on Truth Social.
According to Trump, the United States will begin testing on an equal footing with other countries, as they continue their testing programs. “This process will begin immediately,” he said. He noted that the United States currently has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. “Russia is in second place, and China is in third place by a large margin,” Trump said.

The United States has not conducted a full-scale nuclear test since 1992. In 1996, it signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, but has not ratified it. Until now, the United States has only conducted underground subcritical tests at the Nevada Test Site.

Russia has not conducted a nuclear test since 1990, but has announced that it will withdraw from the treaty in 2023. Russia recently announced that it had tested the Burevestnik missile and the Poseidon nuclear drone.
Currently, nine countries in the world have a total of more than 12,000 nuclear warheads. Russia (4,309) and the United States (3,700) account for 90 percent of them.
