US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the US military has launched “major military operations” against Iran. He announced this in a video message on Truth Social, saying that the goal is to protect the American people from threats from the Iranian regime. Israel also announced that it had carried out a preemptive strike on Iran.
Iranian state media reported explosions in Tehran and other cities, including Isfahan, Qom, Karaj and Kermanshah, and that mobile and internet services were down in some areas. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was evacuated to a safe location and is not currently in Tehran.
Israel has issued a weather alert to warn the population of possible retaliatory strikes, with schools and universities closed, public events canceled, and only essential services are operating.
