Trump and Zelensky hold talks in Florida: peace is close, but no agreement on Donbass

US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks for about three hours at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on December 28. The parties announced that significant progress had been made in ending the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump said that an agreement had been reached on about 95 percent of the terms of the peace agreement. However, the main and most complex issue - the future of the Donbass territories - remained unresolved.
Zelensky stressed that Ukraine's position on Donbass is firm, and the main priority is not the territory, but clear security guarantees for the country. Russia, on the other hand, is putting forward the Donbass issue as a key demand. 
Trump said that the agreement would take concrete shape in a few weeks and said that a trilateral meeting between the United States, Ukraine and Russia could take place in the near future.
