Trump and Xi Jinping begin talks in Beijing

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping have begun official talks in Beijing. The meeting is taking place at the Great Hall of the People.
Xi Jinping welcomed Trump with an official ceremony and stressed that the United States and China should be partners, not rivals. He said that the two countries should prosper together and create a new path for major-country relations.
Trump, in turn, said that he has a "wonderful relationship" with Xi Jinping and has great respect for China and its leader. He also called the talks on trade and global issues important.
The US president noted that the world is currently going through a complex and unstable period, which is why US-China cooperation is important for global stability. He also noted that the interests of the two countries outweigh differences.

Recall that Trump arrived in China yesterday, May 13, for a three-day visit. This is Trump's first visit to China since 2017.
