During the first 7 months of this year, the volume of Tajik-Uzbek sales decreased by more than $ 48 million compared to the previous period.
In January-July 2023, the turnover between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan amounted to almost $ 267 million, which is 15.3 percent less than in the same period of 2022. This was reported by ASIA-Plus, Relying on the statistical department of Tajikistan.
The reduction in the volume of turnover between the two countries is mainly due to a decrease in exports of Tajik products to Uzbekistan: from $ 118 million in the corresponding period of last year in January-July 2023 to $ 86 million.
The reduction in exports, in turn, is said to be due to the reduction in the volume of supply of mineral products (cement, electricity, ore and concentrates, as well as other raw materials) to Uzbekistan.
Imports of Uzbek goods to Tajikistan were also slightly reduced in comparison – from $ 197 million to $ 181 million.
For the first time since 2017, the trend of reduction in the volume of turnover between the two states is observed. In recent years, Tajik-Uzbek turnover has increased by almost 8 times — from $ 70 million in 2016 to over $ 555 million in 2022.
Tajikistan supplies Uzbekistan mainly raw materials: primary aluminum, electricity, cotton fiber, cement, leather, sawdust, silk raw materials, as well as various fabrics, drinks, including alcohol, carpets, etc.
It imports finished textiles, natural gas, mineral fertilizers, plastics, shoes, pottery, non-ferrous metals, electrical engineering and mechanical equipment from Uzbekistan.
In 7 months of 2023, Tajikistan's foreign trade turnover amounted to almost $ 4 billion, which is 3.5 percent ($146 million) less than in the same period of 2022.
Products and products worth $ 767 million were exported from the Republic, which is $ 592 million (43.6 percent) less than in the same period last year.
Imports of goods, on the other hand, grew by 16 percent - from $ 2.8 billion to $ 3.2 billion.
