The President's working trip to Almaty began with a visit to a new drainage dam
ASTANA, Aug 18 — Sputnik. The Head of State visited the Ayusai drainage dam, built in Almaty on June 1, 2023.
The Ayusai dam is located in the Ulken river basin of Almaty, in the upper reaches of which there are 98 mudflow-prone areas, 89 glaciers, 20 moraine and glacial lakes.
The hydraulic structure will minimize the threat from mudslides and provide engineering protection for over 500 thousand people and about 2 thousand objects.
As the head of "Kazselezashchita" Kairat Bekenov told the president, to prevent natural disasters in the metropolis, it is necessary to build new protective structures that stabilize the riverbeds. The structures will reduce the speed of water and keep the riverbed flow in the basins of the Ulken Almaty, Esik, Talgar, Kaskelen and Turgen rivers.
31 digital hydro posts were presented to Tokayev near the dam. Such posts online will track water indicators - speed, temperature, turbidity and more.
It is noted that the technologies will be implemented in all seven mountainous regions of the country. The information of the hydro posts will be available to all scientific organizations and relevant departments integrated into the unified information system of the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan.
This morning Tokayev flew to the metropolis to hold a meeting on the development of Almaty. He will also visit a number of social facilities.
