Today marks three years since the signing of the act of surrender by Armenia, which marked the end of the second Karabakh war.
The document of surrender was signed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
It should be noted that on September 27, 2020, the Azerbaijani army, under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev, began counter-offensive operations against military provocations of Armenia.
The Azerbaijani army liberated its native lands, expelling the occupiers and capturing enemy equipment and ammunition as war trophies. In 44 days, five cities, four villages and 286 villages were liberated - the city of Jebrail and 90 villages of the region, the city of Fuzuli and 53 villages of the region, the city of Zangilan, the villages of Minjivan, Agbend, Bartaz and 52 villages of the region, the village of Hadrut and 35 villages of the Khojavend region, three villages of the Terter region, the city of Gubadly and 41 villages of the region, nine villages of the Khojaly region, the city of Shusha, several villages of the Lachin region, as well as in the direction of Agdere and Murovdag, the heights of Bartaz, Sygyrt, Shukyurataz and five more unnamed heights.
The liberation of the city of Shusha by the Azerbaijani army on November 8 predetermined the outcome of the war. The military-political leadership of Armenia was forced to sign a ceasefire document, which was actually an act of surrender.
On November 10, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a statement on a complete ceasefire and all military operations in the conflict zone. Thus, the long-term Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict was put to an end.
According to the statement, the Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin regions were returned to Azerbaijan without a fight.
At the same time, Armenia did not fulfill its obligations under the signed document. The tripartite statement of November 10, 2020 clearly stated the requirement for Armenia to withdraw its forces from Karabakh in parallel with the deployment of Russian peacekeepers. However, for almost three years, Armenia continued to support illegal military formations on the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan. These formations in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan systematically shelled the positions of the Azerbaijani army from weapons of various calibers, mined territories, and committed various acts of sabotage.
In order to ensure the provisions of the tripartite statement, prevent large-scale provocations committed in the Karabakh economic region, disarmament and withdrawal of formations of the Armenian Armed Forces from Azerbaijani territories, neutralize their military infrastructure, return civilians to territories liberated from occupation, as well as to ensure the safety of civilian specialists and military personnel involved in construction and restoration work, and to restore the constitutional order of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the region, local anti-terrorism measures were launched on September 19, 2023.
As a result, in less than 24 hours, with the use of high-precision weapons, the forward positions and long-term firing points of the Armenian Armed Forces, as well as combat assets and military facilities, were disabled. The separatist detachments fled, leaving behind their combat positions, weapons and ammunition.
On October 15, President Ilham Aliyev visited the city of Khankendi, Khojavend, Shusha, Khojaly, Agderin districts, visited the Askeran fortress, and from now on the Azerbaijani flag flies throughout the republic.
