On Sunday, July 16, three strong flares occurred on the Sun. Class M flashes are of medium strength, only class X is higher - the most powerful flashes.

One of them led to violations of shortwave radio communications on Earth. This was reported by the heliogeophysical service of the Institute of Applied Geophysics. Academician E. K. Fedorov.

An outbreak of class M 1.1 in the X-ray range was recorded at 11:26 Moscow time. Its duration was 14 minutes.

“The outbreak was accompanied by a disruption of HF radio communications,” the service said.

In the evening, at 18:08 Moscow time and 20:46 Moscow time, two more flares of class M 1.8 and M 4.0 occurred on the Sun.

According to the strength of the X-ray emission, flares on the Sun are divided into the following classes: X - the most powerful, M - medium, C - weak, A and B - almost imperceptible.

When moving to the next letter, the power increases 10 times. Flares are accompanied by ejections of solar plasma.

Its clouds, reaching the Earth, can cause magnetic storms.

According to forecasts, flares of the maximum class X are not excluded on July 17. In addition, deterioration in HF radio conditions is expected.
