There are more than 12 thousand Central Asians in the Russian army
As of 2026, there are 12,666 citizens of Central Asia in the Russian army. They have participated in the war or are currently participating. This was reported by the Ukrainian state project “Khochu Zhit” (I Want to Live).
According to the data, 4,853 citizens from Uzbekistan, 3,407 from Tajikistan, 2,389 from Kazakhstan, 1,439 from Kyrgyzstan and 578 from Turkmenistan serve in the army as mercenaries. They have signed contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
