On November 13-17, 2023, the 21st session of the Committee for Review of the Implementation of the UN Convention (CRIC-21) will be held at the "Silk Road Samarkand" congress center.
About 500 delegates from 196 countries and the European Union, representatives of civil society and scientific circles are participating in the event. They will review progress towards achieving the Convention's strategic goals. For the first time since the UNCCD was signed, one of its most important meetings is being held in Central Asia.
CRIC-21 participants will have the opportunity to review and make recommendations on progress towards global goals for the prevention of land degradation in line with the UN Strategy for 2018-2030.
In the session, “The droughts, forest fires and heat waves we are seeing around the world are symptoms of interconnected climate and natural crises.
Since 2015, about 4 million square km of healthy and fertile land - an area roughly the size of Central Asia - has been lost.
To achieve global land use goals by 2030, we must urgently stop further land degradation and restore at least 1 billion hectares," said UN representative Ibrahim Tiau.
