According to World Health Organization data, 170 million children and adolescents aged 5–19 worldwide suffered from obesity in 2024. This figure represents a fourfold increase compared to 1990.
Of these, 70 million are children aged 5–9, and 100 million are adolescents aged 10–19.
The WHO has issued its first recommendations for treating childhood obesity, advising healthy eating, physical activity, and lifestyle changes.
The organization estimates that obesity caused 3.7 million deaths worldwide in 2024. Without appropriate measures, the number of people suffering from obesity could double by 2030.
