Territorial changes have been made on the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border, and the villages of Chongara and Toshtepa, which are part of the Fergana region, have been transferred to the Kyrgyz Republic. This was announced by Askat Alagozov, the press secretary of the President of Kyrgyzstan.
According to him, after registration, about 2.5 thousand ethnic Kyrgyz living in these settlements will receive Kyrgyz citizenship. In return, Kyrgyzstan provided Uzbekistan with land plots of equal area from the border area.
Also, within the framework of the construction project of the Say-Tayan highway, the parties exchanged 236 hectares of land of equal value. After the new road is put into operation, residents of the Batken region will be able to travel the distance between the cities of Aydarkan and Batken in 55 kilometers instead of 225 kilometers.
