On the afternoon of January 1, a series of strong earthquakes struck Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture. The magnitude of the strongest recorded earthquake was 7.6. As a result of strong earthquakes, 55 people died and more than 100 people were injured. It was the deadliest earthquake to hit Japan since 2016. A major tsunami warning was issued for parts of Japan's west coast following the earthquakes, but all tsunami warnings have now been cancelled.
