The U.S. Treasury Department issued sanctions against four Kyrgyz companies on July 20. This is stated in a press release from the US Treasury Department. It is noted that through these companies, Russia received dual-purpose goods and technologies, bypassing the restrictions introduced by Western countries.
Since the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, enterprises located in Kyrgyzstan have exported many electronic components and other technologies to Russia, part of which was taken by enterprises of the Russian defense sector, the statement said.
In this regard, the United States imposed sanctions on PM Dezayn and Development, a Kyrgyz-registered company founded in March 2022 that is an “active supplier of dual-purpose goods to Russia”.
The company sent hundreds of goods, including semiconductors, electronic integrated circuits and capacitors, to several Russian companies — the United States also included them in the sanctions list.
In addition Kyrgyz companies Progress leader, GTM technologii, Kargolain came under US sanctions.
On July 19, The Washington Post reported that the United States was taking economic action against Kyrgyzstan for violating sanctions imposed on Russia. The publication writes that Washington suspects Bishkek of supplying Chinese drones to Russia.
The Kyrgyz state committee for National Security stated that the Kyrgyz government and state-owned enterprises did not violate the sanctions imposed by the United States against Russia, but it could also be attributed to private companies. The committee launched an inquiry into the case.
Kyrgyz Prime Minister Ochilbek Japarov said that measures have been taken to prevent products from being exported in violation of sanctions in the Republic.
