The US government may resign

Congress is unable to reach an agreement on the new budget. This must be received by October 1.
The US federal government could shut down. If the US Congress does not agree on a new budget by October 1, the government will resign.

"Republicans in the House have 18 hours left to shut down the government," the White House said in a social media post. The White House publishes an updated post every hour. The number of hours left until shutdown is decreasing.

According to CNN, the US Senate completed its work on September 29 and postponed the vote on the government's short-term budget resolution until the next day. Earlier, the House of Representatives rejected a short-term government funding bill, which the White House did not like.

232 congressmen voted against the spending reduction and border security bill, while 198 voted for it. The document was supposed to be valid until the end of October.

The authors of the initiative proposed a 30% reduction in costs for all items. Only national defense, homeland security, veterans' needs and disaster relief expenses were said to be exempt.

Both chambers are now preparing short-term budget versions to avoid a shutdown and provide time for negotiations on the 2024 fiscal year budget.
