The United States Temporarily Suspends the Green Card Lottery

On the order of U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, the Green Card (DV) Lottery program has been temporarily suspended, Reuters reported. The decision was reportedly prompted by the fact that the suspect in the shooting at Brown University had entered the country through the DV program.

In the incident on December 13, Uzbek student Muhammadaziz Umurzoqov was killed. The suspect was later found dead on the night of December 18.

For reference, the DV program grants 50,000 permanent resident visas annually. In 2025, Uzbekistan ranked first with 5,500 winners.

Earlier, the Trump administration had also announced a decision to review Green Cards issued to citizens of certain countries.
