The Swedish Center Against Violent Extremism (CVE) has called on the Swedish government to amend the Public Order Act to allow public events such as Koran burnings to be banned if they threaten national security.
Currently, burning the Koran is legal in Sweden, which they see as a guarantee of freedom of speech.
"It is necessary to quickly change the law on public order," says Jonas Trolle, head of CVE.
Jonas Trolle said that the Swedish constitution allows the restriction of fundamental rights and freedoms in the interests of national security, but the Public Order Act does not.
"The constitution allows for refusal if there is a threat to national security, and what is happening right now is really not very good in terms of risk for Sweden," said Trolle.
He also pointed to the experience of countries such as Great Britain, Germany, France and Finland, and noted that "although freedom of speech is high enough, it is not possible to burn the Koran."
Let us remind you that Salwan Momika, a refugee from Iraq, burned the Koran in Stockholm last week.
Countries such as Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco summoned the ambassadors of Sweden and protested the incident of burning the Koran.
