The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan acquitted another 161 victims of Soviet-era repression

On May 6, 8 criminal cases of individuals accused of actions against the Soviet regime in 1920-1934 were re-examined in open court sessions. The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court acquitted these citizens. It is noted that they were accused of aiding and abetting acts of repression, forming an armed group, and participating in uprisings against the Soviet regime at that time. 33 of the convicted were sentenced to death by firing squad, while the rest were sent to camps for various terms. Among them were women and minors. The Supreme Court interpreted this decision as a continuation of the work to restore historical justice and vindicate the names of ancestors who were unjustly punished during the dictatorship. For your information, in recent years, a total of 1,236 victims of repression have been rehabilitated as a result of the efforts of the Republican Working Group established by presidential decree.
