The Strongest Typhoon of the Year Hits Taiwan

The year’s most powerful typhoon, Ragasa, has claimed 14 lives in Taiwan, with 124 people reported missing. On September 22, heavy flooding struck Hualien Province after a lake overflowed. The super typhoon is now approaching China’s southern coast. In Hong Kong and Shenzhen, wind speeds have reached 168 km/h, with waves rising up to 4 meters. Nearly 370,000 people have been evacuated from Guangdong Province.

Videos circulating on social media show waves smashing through hotel doors. In southern China, more than one million people have been relocated to safe areas, over 10,000 ships have been directed to secure harbors, and more than 38,000 firefighters remain on standby. Experts warn that in the coming days, Ragasa is expected to move westward toward Vietnam and Cambodia.
