In Brazil, a constitutional amendment to reduce the workweek from 44 to 40 hours—granting employees two days of rest per week—has been supported by the Senate. Out of 76 senators, 75 voted in favor of the measure.
The new policy will take effect within two months. The reduction in working hours will be implemented without any decrease in wages. Employers will be given time to prepare for the change; they may reorganize work schedules or, if necessary, hire additional staff.
Previously, the standard workweek in Brazil was 44 hours, with employees receiving one day of rest per week. Under the new system, they will be entitled to two days of rest. This change is expected to help citizens dedicate more time to their families and personal lives.
