The poverty line has been updated in Uzbekistan

The amount of minimum consumption expenses in Uzbekistan was set at 568,000 soums per person per month. This is 12.4% higher than last year. Based on the annual inflation rate in 2022, the minimum consumption expenditure calculated for 2023 was 568,000 soums per person per month. This was reported by the information service of the Statistics Agency. For information, the amount of minimum consumer spending in Uzbekistan was 440,000 soums in 2021, and 498,000 soums from January 2022. The new amount of 568,000 soums is 12.4% higher than the previous 498,000 soums. We remind you that official inflation was 12.3 percent in 2022. In world experience, it is common to use minimum consumption expenditure as a poverty line, and this indicator is used for the following purposes: to determine the target group of the population in need of material and other social assistance of the state; use in defining the country's poverty line and taking into account the real consumption characteristics and requirements of the population in the target group; increasing the effectiveness and targeting of the tasks and measures set in the strategies and programs to fight against poverty, as well as their continuous monitoring; as a criterion for determining the minimum amount of pensions and allowances, as well as providing other types of financial assistance to poor families.
