In Libya, the number of deaths from flooding caused by Hurricane Daniel and heavy rainfall exceeded 8,000. This was reported by the “Kommersant”, relying on the adviser of the country's House of Representatives (Parliament). More than 10 thousand people are on the list of missing people.

“The death toll from a natural disaster in northeastern Libya exceeded 8,000. At the moment, the number of missing people has exceeded 10 thousand,” Al — Arabiya TV channel quotes an adviser to the Libyan parliament.

Abdulmenam al-Ghaiti, the head of the municipality of Derna, who suffered the most from the storm, told Al-Arabiya that according to the forecasts of the city administration, the number of victims of precipitation and flooding in the region can increase: from 18 to 20 thousand. Previously, the Ministry of Health predicted 10,000 casualties.

Flooding in northeastern Libya was caused by Hurricane Daniel, which hit the country on September 10. The city of Derna saw the most serious, where two dams were destroyed. Many residential buildings and hospitals were flooded.The disaster also affected the coastal towns of Jabal al-Akhdar and Bing'ozi. Currently, a curfew has been introduced in three areas of the province of Cyrenaica in the East.
