The number of divorces in Uzbekistan has increased: the main reason is character incompatibility

The eleventh plenary session of the Senate noted that the number of divorces in the country is increasing. In 2024, more than 271 thousand marriages were concluded, and more than 45 thousand ended in divorces. The largest number of divorces was recorded in Tashkent (5,913), Fergana, Andijan and Samarkand regions.

Of the more than 32 thousand divorce cases considered in courts in 2024:

* 54 percent were due to character incompatibility,

* 6 percent to another relationship,

* 4 percent to unpreparedness for a family,

* 3 percent to mutual distrust.

Also, in the first 9 months of 2025, more than 50 thousand couples applied to court, of which more than 27 thousand were dissolved.

The issue of early marriage was also raised at the meeting: in the last 5 years, the marriage age has been reduced in 391 cases, and in 2025, 155 girls aged 15-17 were married off before reaching adulthood. As a result, a decision was made to send a parliamentary inquiry to the Committee on Family and Women on this issue.
