The most indebted country in Central Asia has been revealed
The total public debt of Central Asian countries has exceeded $140 billion. Of this, $123.5 billion is accounted for by Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
As of April 1, 2026, Kazakhstan's public debt amounted to $76.5 billion, the highest figure in the region. Uzbekistan was in second place with a debt of $47 billion. Kyrgyzstan's public debt amounted to $9.8 billion, Turkmenistan's was about $4 billion, and Tajikistan's was $3.5 billion.
In terms of the ratio of public debt to GDP, Kyrgyzstan is the country with the highest debt burden in the region with 39.5 percent.
