The most beautiful word in the world

An international jury has chosen the most beautiful word in the world. The winner was “kaitiakitanga,” a word from the Māori language, spoken by the Indigenous people of New Zealand.

The word represents humanity’s responsibility toward nature, environmental stewardship, and preserving the natural world for future generations. Experts selected the winner based on its sound, meaning, cultural significance, and relevance to today’s world.

The competition featured 223 words from more than 75 languages. Other finalists included the well-known words “saudade” (Portuguese), “ikigai” (Japanese), “hiraeth” (Welsh), “ubuntu” (Zulu), and “luftmensch” (Yiddish).

According to the organizers, the project aims to highlight the meaning and cultural value of unique words from different languages that cannot be fully translated into other languages.
