The mayor of Istanbul, considered Erdoğan's opponent in the presidential elections, was captured

On March 19, the mayor of Istanbul City, Akrom Imamoğlu, a representative of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), his spokesman, as well as about 100 other employees of the city's administration, were arrested. 
Akrom Imamoğlu is Erdoğan's likely opponent in the presidential elections. He is accused of encroaching on the constitutional order, forming a criminal organization and assisting the “Workers ' Party of Kurdistan”. 
Against the background of the arrest of the politician, several roads were closed in the city, any demonstrations were banned for four days, access to social networks was restricted, and the Turkish lira course collapsed to a record high.
