North Korea has tested another long-range ballistic missile nearly a month after its last missile launch. This was reported by Reuters on July 12, citing information from the Committee of the Chiefs of Staff of the South Korean Armed Forces. The information about the test was confirmed by the Japanese military.
The flight distance was 1,000 kilometers, the missile covered it in 74 minutes. This is the longest flight in the history of missiles launched by North Korea, TV Asahi reported, citing the Japanese Ministry of Defense. NHK reports that the missile was fired into the sea outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.
This was the twelfth missile test of the DPRK in 2023. North Korea launched a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time this year. Pyongyang's attempt to launch a spy satellite into space ended in failure. At the same time, UN Security Council resolutions prohibit North Korea from using ballistic missile technology, including launching satellites.
An air alert was declared in South Korea due to the North Korean missile
On May 31, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea had fired a missile towards the south. In this regard, an air strike warning was issued in Seoul, the residents of the South Korean capital were asked to prepare for evacuation and, first of all, "take children and the elderly to safe places." After some time, the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the warning sent by the city hall was "wrongly organized".
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan expressed concern about North Korea's missile launch.
